Are you all set to give shape to your tiny house design? If yes, then drawing your house’s floor plan by hand is a smart idea. It is also a creative process that I enjoyed for Shellmate Island. It is a stage where you get to work with your thoughts, dreams, concepts, and translate them into reality. As I wrote in a previous article (click here to read it) stating the importance of blueprints, it’s always a good idea to have a floor plan of where things are in your home. However, in the beginning, the task might seem daunting! But when you divide the task into baby steps, your tiny house planning can feel a bit less stressful.

Living in a tiny house on wheels or a smaller space can be a newer concept to most but luckily some people are seeing the benefits. People want to simplify their life with a minimalistic approach and view this lifestyle as part of that solution. When choosing this type of tiny house dwelling, you have to be thoughtful about the interior where space is at a premium. Every inch counts in a typical tiny house. No matter what size you build or live in, you ultimately have to fit everyday items in the available area without crowding. How do you achieve this?

Some people believe that constructing a tiny house can be more expensive with current prices, but these still can be cheaper to buy than a regular home or RV even if the tiny home is 120k. For example, a customized, tiny house can cost anywhere from $35,000 - $200,000. However, traditional American homes, on average, come at a whopping price of $284,000. So, in essence, tiny houses seem to be less expensive compared to traditional choices. Even with comparing the two based on square footage, 68%+ tiny house owners don’t have a bill they need to pay every month for their tiny home. This is probably due to A. Budgeting right and B. Having a smaller home automatically requires you to buy fewer things and be more conscious of your spending habits. So ultimately the lifestyle change is what helps them pay off their home faster. But what do you exactly need to spend on your dream micro shelter?

As a tiny house dweller, you can have multiple toilet options to explore. Originally, Tiffany the Tiny Home came with a compost toilet, and then I changed it to run a normal flush toilet while at the campground. Since then I have decided to convert it back to a compost toilet by Nature Head for a couple of reasons. One, I am in a long term strategy to make Tiffany the Tiny Home as much off-grid as possible so a compost toilet was the easiest quickest big step into this. Living in Florida I always see sewage spills throughout the state ( I think I am on some weird Google algorithm lol) as well as weird things like dumping into the oceans to some degree. I figured since I can't rely on the local governments to properly regulate it (no harm feelings you guys got a lot going on), I would regulate mine by myself.
