A good Siesta Key weekend is two beach sessions, one sunset, one side trip and a quiet place to sleep. This is the plan we give our own guests, with a base three minutes from the sand.
Saturday: the beach
- Morning: Siesta Key Beach early, before the parking lot fills. The sand is quartz, so it stays cool underfoot.
- Lunch: Siesta Key Village, a short walk from the public beach.
- Afternoon: Turtle Beach at the south end of the key is quieter and better for shelling.
- Sunset: the Sunday drum circle is the famous one, but the beach is good any evening. Bring a chair; ours are included.
Sunday: a side trip
Pick one:
- Lido Key and St. Armands Circle for a different beach and a walkable shopping circle.
- The Ringling museum and grounds for art and the bayfront mansion.
- Myakka River State Park for alligators, kayaking and the canopy walkway, about 12 minutes from our homes.
- The Legacy Trail on the free bikes.
Where to sleep
Staying on the key is expensive and parking is tight. Our two tiny homes on Shellmate Island are about 3 minutes from Siesta Key Beach and include free bikes, kayaks and beach gear, so the gear is sorted before you arrive. Shellmate Island is the roomier home; Tiffany The Tiny Home is the cozy HGTV-featured one.
